For a fun full day of learning activities you can combine any of the activity options below with access to the Visitor Centre Exhibitions. We can recommend the best combination of activities for your group depending on the time you have available.

  • Mini Discovery Tour
    How We Used To Live in the Past

    We offer a light-hearted mini tour with one of our guides. Pupils can explore a 'single end', old household objects and see how the washing was done! They can also find out what going shopping was like; or see a real spinning machine in action! 

    • Choice of era: Early 1800s, Victorian, 1930s or general overview
    • Curriculum: SOC 0-04a, SOC 0-07a
    • Duration: Approximately 40 minutes 
    • Typical Guide ratio: 1 guide for up to 15 pupils.
    • Available Monday to Friday
  • Toys from the Past
    In touch with history

    In this guided session pupils will get the opportunity to learn about the toys that children played with in the past; view and handle old toys; visit the Historic Classroom and play traditional toys and games.

    • Curriculum: SOC 0-02a, SOC 0-04a, SCN 0-04a
    • Recommended group size: Up to 30 pupils
    • Session length: 1 hour
    • Available Monday to Friday
  • Classroom Roleplay
    A customised session of our popular roleplay is available for P1-2.

    Pupils enjoy a school day in Robert Owen's time (1825) with a costumed teacher. The lesson includes: drill, writing, dancing, dressing up and writing on slates. 

    • Curriculum: SOC 0-04a, EXA 0-10a, EXA 0-12a, LIT 0-02a, LIT 0-21b, MNU 0-02a
    • Recommended group size: Up to 30 pupils
    • Session length: 1 hour
    • Available Monday to Friday
You can also enjoy a self-led visit, exclusive use of our Interactive Gallery, and a trip to our fantastic award-winning outdoor play area

You are welcome to bring your group to the Visitor Centre and take them around yourself. Highlights that infant groups might enjoy include dressing up in Robert Owen's School, taking a trip on the Annie McLeod Experience Ride, and playing in the great outdoors at Clearburn Natural Play Area - if you go down to the woods today.... you're sure to find a great place to play, climb, run, swing, and jump at Clearburn Picnic and Play Area!
