Capture New Lanark - the winners!

Capture New Lanark - Postcard Competition

At the end of last year we put a call out to budding photographers & artists to get creative & submit their artwork to our Capture New Lanark postcard competition. Entrants were encouraged to be inspired by the many fascinating aspects of New Lanark World Heritage Site, including:

  • The Falls of Clyde.
  • New Lanark buildings and architecture.
  • Woodland and wildlife.

After the competition closed last week, the judges had a very tough job picking the winners from over 100 fantastic entries, many of which were postcard-worthy! We're now very pleased to showcase the 15 winning photographs that will be incorporated into our new range of official New Lanark postcards, sold to visitors from around the world in the New Lanark Mill Shop.

New Lanark would like to thank all of the competition entrants for their effort in submitting their creative work. We will be keeping all submissions and contact details on record, so we may contact entrants in the future with regards to their artwork being used in future projects and promotions.

Please enjoy the winning entries below. Coming to the Mill Shop soon!

It’s a great place to visit with my young family as there is so much to do whatever the weather. I took the photo in December 2010 when the freezing conditions had managed to still the mighty Clyde in parts. It really was spectacular (and very cold!)”

I first went to New Lanark when I was at school in & have visited a few times over the years however when I saw the competition I couldn’t resist another opportunity to return! I really enjoy photography & the challenge to capture a shot worthy of a postcard for the Mill Shop was right up my street, however I have to be honest – in New Lanark the stunning location does all the hard work for you."

My Granddad was the coal man in New Lanark from Douglas who also has a special History. They met in New Lanark and married in the School at New Lanark,They have a wonderful Love story as well as having a very musical family"

"I'm an amateur who bought a camera just over 4 years ago now and started taking pictures. I live a few miles from Lanark and although I try to get around the whole of Scotland I try not to overlook the local attractions such as New Lanark and aim to visit at least once a year. I entered because I thought the pictures I had fitted your remit, were quite nice and hope that having my name and url on a postcard in your shop will prompt a few people to have a look at some of the other pictures I have."

"I am over the moon to have won, especially when I see the caliber of the competition! New Lanark is a big part of my children's lives, we regularly explore the footpaths and seem to spend every free sunny day enjoying our long walks and picnics."

Bonnington Linn is a particular favourite of mine. It is spectacular and can change dramatically throughout the seasons.
I was fortunate to get this shot; a clear winter's day and the falls in full flow!"
