New Lanark will host a range of activities throughout the year in support of the Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology. The main focus in the first half of the year will be around World Heritage Day, with activities taking place 16th – 18th April. The events will conclude on
There will be a free shuttle bus running on Sunday 16th & Monday 17th April from the top car park to the village square from 11am - 5pm.
SCAN - Shining Live Scanathon - Monday 17th April

Location: River Room, Institute for the Formation of Character
Shining Lives will be a spectacular sound, light and projection event taking place on 20th & 21st October. On Monday 17th April, New Lanark are inviting people to bring in their photographs and stories of people who worked in the industries of New Lanark, Lanark and the Clyde Valley to be recorded at our ‘scanathon’. These will be scanned and then incorporated into the New Lanark archive and may be projected onto our historic buildings as part of Shining Lives!
New Lanark are particularly interested to hear from anyone who has connections with people who used to live in Double Row and Mantilla Row at New Lanark.

Archaeology Taster Tours - Sunday 16th, Monday 17th and Tuesday 18th April
11am and 2pm
A unique opportunity to get a 'taster of archaeology by seeing volunteers at work excavating post-abandonment deposits from 1 Double Row's basement. There will be an archaeologist on hand to explain the process and let you know about any interesting "finds". As well as visiting the Double Row tenement block, the tour will also visit the site of Mantilla Row where you'll have a chance to find out more about this lost building in New Lanark's history.
Online booking is now closed - any remaining places can be reserved at the Tour Desk on a first come, first served basis. The following tours are already fully booked:
KNIT New Lanark - Scotland in Six - Tuesday 18th April
Grab your knitting needles and craft supplies and celebrate World Heritage Day with Dig It! 2017 through yarnbombing, taster sessions, interactive workshops and plenty of tea.

On Tuesday 18th April there will be no blue badge parking in front of the Institute, this will instead be located in the village square.
