New Lanark is an excellent educational resource with an award-winning range of services for schools, colleges and universities. School groups receive a specially discounted rate for entry to the Visitor Centre, our guided tours, and special guided sessions in Robert Owen's School.
The popular guided visits comprise of a tour of the village and entry to the exhibitions and attractions in the Visitor Centre. Each tour can be tailored to suit the needs of the group and the topic being studied.
A comprehensive range of books, leaflets and teaching resources are available to support a visit. Look out for special-education events and activities that are organised throughout the year.

SHADOWS OF OUR ANCESTORS WORLD HERITAGE DAY 2011 CELEBRATIONS
PRIMARY SCHOOL PUPILS BID UP FOR FAIRTRADE!
Almost 400 primary school pupils came along to New Lanark in March 2011 to celebrate Fairtrade at our Go Fair Event. They took part in Arkeen Theatre Company's Bid Up Fairtrade Workshop. Some pupils were even seen strutting their stuff on the catwalk! Award-winning Stonelaw High Fairtraders were special guests who inspired the youngsters with their experiences of Fairtrade enterprise. Lanark Grammar Fairtrade Committee were back by popular demand and they delivered a fun Fairtrade Quiz they had devised. This is the second Fairtrade learning and sharing event at New Lanark and a busy, fun day was had by all!
Also, during Fairtrade Fortnight some New Lanark visitors took part in the Fairtrade Foundation's Guinness World Record attempt to create the World's Longest Bunting. The bunting flags created at New Lanark have been sent off to the Foundation to be counted in their bid!
WORLD HERITAGE EDUCATION YOUTH SUMMIT COMES TO NEW LANARK!
On Friday 1st October 2010, 45 young people gathered at New Lanark for the first UK UNESCO Youth Summit in Scotland to learn about World Heritage in the 21st century. The Summit was organised by the UK Commission for UNESCO, the Jurassic Coast WHS and New Lanark Trust. It was sponsored by Historic Scotland and the aim of the event was to explore aspects of World Heritage and what it means to young people in Scotland. Youth delegations representing all five World Heritage Sites in Scotland attended, plus a group from the Historic Town of St Georges in Bermuda. The young people had an active learning day which included exploring global challenges to World Heritage Sites and a 'Dragon's Den' style exercise in which they had to devise a winning pitch! The representative groups also each prepared fantastic presentations informing the other delegates about their own World Heritage Site. Everyone had a great experience, made new friends and learned something new about World Heritage.
SANDFORD AWARD WINNER!
New Lanark Trust has been recognised for educational excellence and has achieved its third Sandford award from the Heritage Education Trust for its education programme. The Director and Education Officer joined other recipients across the UK to receive their award from His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex at a ceremony at Windsor Castle on the 15th February 2010.
The citation reads:
"Teachers cannot fail to be impressed by the educational opportunities on offer at New Lanark World Heritage Site. The village, surrounding landscape, individual buildings and their contents, working machinery, displays and exhibitions, conservation programme and ongoing technological developments all combine to provide a wonderful resource able to support a wide variety of cross-curricular areas of study, from early years through to secondary education and beyond.".
