Guided Visits for School Groups

We offer special discounted rates for schools, and our curriculum-linked guided visit programme can be used to support the delivery of the various experiences and outcomes of the Curriculum for Excellence, especially Social Studies: People, past events and societies and People, place and environment.

A guided visit comprises a tour followed by entry to the Visitor Centre.

The following topics are popular choices for schools undertaking a guided tour, although we will be pleased to tailor the tour to suit the topic of your choice:

• People, past events and societies topics - Victorians, Desperate Journey, Robert Owen, Industrial Revolution, child labour
• People, place and environment topics - New Lanark and the Falls of Clyde, Settlements, Water Power & Renewable Energy
• Standard Grade History - Changing Scotland 1750-1850, Living Conditions, Industrial Revolution
• Travel and Tourism - all levels to Higher Still
• Citizenship and Enterprise - Robert Owen's Model Community

Younger pupils (p1-3) usually have a shorter tour and spend the remainder of the time with their guide in the Education Room where they can dress up, handle old objects and play traditional childhood games.
