Guided Sessions for School and Nursery Groups

Illustration by G. Hunt depicting the School in operation. Three guided active learning sessions are available.

Owen's Schoolchildren - A role-play lesson in the Historic Classroom is a great way to learn about past schooldays at New Lanark. Spend an hour in the 1820s classroom with a costumed teacher who will give lessons in handwriting, arithmetic, drill and nature studies. Pupils will especially enjoy wearing the authentic tunic-style uniforms and writing on slates. Suitable for primary 4 to 7.

Toys from the Past Session - Pupils are given the opportunity to learn about the toys that children played with in the past in this fun, hands-on session in which they can handle old toys and play traditional toys and games in the 1820s Historic Classroom. Suitable for primary 1 to 3.

Interactive Gallery Session - Younger groups, including nurseries, will find an exploratory session in the Interactive Gallery of light, sound and colour particularly rewarding. Features within this room include ceiling-to-floor musical strings, a silver padded floor where you can create pools of reflected colour and the ripple wall which moves to the gentle sounds of running water. Suitable for Nursery to primary 2.
